Match Review LS8 | Selangor FC 2-0 Kelantan Darul Naim FC | 3 Crucial Points & The Return Of Faisal Halim

Selangor FC remain in second place in the Super League 2024/25 competition with a victory against Kelantan Darul Naim FC with a 2-0 result at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya yesterday.

Yesterday was the fifth victory in the 2024/25 Super League competition. Import striker Ronnie Fernandez scored both goals in the 66th and 86th minutes of yesterday's #SFCKDN match. The first goal was scored after Reziq Banihani headed the ball towards Ronnie and he scored the opener with an improvised finish to give us the lead against Sang Kijang Emas. The game turned after the goal, opening up more try after try from the Red Giants squad. Among the offensive moves that led to a penalty kick after Ronnie was tackled in the penalty area, he calmly took the penalty kick to secure the win yesterday.

According to the Head Coach of Selangor FC, Nidzam Jamil, he was happy with the victory without conceding but still gave respect to the Sang Kijang Emas.

"I praise Kelantan Darul Naim with the way that they defend because I know defending is not an easy thing either, in fact it is hard for us to score in the first half. However, I am happy in the second half, with some changes, they continued to fight until the end of the match and get this win. Besides, I'm happy with Ronnie's two goals yesterday. At the same time, we also obtained a win without conceding which is also a dream of everyone in football. Alhamdulillah, we got both in yesterday's match," said Nizam Jamil.

From the #SFCKDN match in the 2024/25 Super League match yesterday, some important things can be seen, such as:-

The Return of the Warrior #FH7

The wait ends for all supporters of the Malaysian football scene with the return of Faisal Halim, the fighter of the acid splash incident since the beginning of last May. He has been listed since the match against Terengganu FC in the FA Cup Semi-Final but officially played for the first time this season in the Malaysian league through the #SFCKDN match yesterday in the 85th minute. In the 87th minute, made his first attempt by heading the ball towards the opponent's goal after receiving a good pass from Alvin Fortes from the right side, but luck was not on his side, the ball went straight towards the goal post. In addition, towards the end of the match, Faisal became the team captain, continuing Safuwan Baharudin's responsibility after he was subbed out in the minute 90+2.

The media often ask Nidzam Jamil, Head Coach of Selangor FC about Faisal Halim's condition and this time he explained his actions and hopes, "Mickey (Faisal) has not been performing competitively for a long time. We have to understand that he needs time. I also don't want people to feel that he is not the Faisal we have known. Therefore, I took the approach of giving him playing minutes in order to help his development. If we look at yesterday's game, he also almost scored a goal. My responsibility is to help him get back ready to perform as usual to develop better."

Ronnie Fernandez added his Super League goal

Continuing to adapt to the Malaysian football scene, Ronnie Fernandez, the Red Giants imported striker, is the scorer of both goals that brought the Red Giants fifth victory in the Super League. Ronnie was also named as Man of The Match after becoming the only scorer of yesterday’s match. This is the second time he has been Man of The Match, the first time was against Perak FC, where in this match he also scored two goals. So far, Ronnie has scored six goals, five in the Super League and one in the FA Cup.

Nidzam Jamil believes in the ability of this imported striker, although he may take time to score goals but his contribution especially in attacking is very high, most of the goals scored this season come from his involvement. Nizam is also happy that Ronnie continues to score goals and wants him to continue to show his best performance.

Reziq Banihani continues to gain confidence

Having suffered an ankle injury during the pre-season in Jakarta, Reziq is working hard to get his track back. He has also played in an U23 MFL Cup match against Sabah FC II to gain his maximum fitness before playing again with Selangor FC's main squad. In that match, he managed to score his first hat-trick for himself as well as for the Red Giants feeder squad. He then was given chances to play in several matches in the Super League before regaining his confidence in the FA Cup Semi-Final match at the MBPJ Stadium with a goal in the 90+1 minute, thus confirming the Merah Kuning squad qualified for the Final match of the competition. While in yesterday's match, he managed to open his assist account for the first time after heading the ball straight towards Ronnie Fernandez before the #SFCKDN action's first goal was confirmed.

The management of Selangor FC would like to thank the 7,465 supporters who came to the #SFCKDN match and enlivened the stadium by collaborating with one of Selangor FC's partners, Khind, with the Hari Aksi Juara Khind campaign, in conjunction with Faisal Halim's return to the Malaysian football scene. Continue to support the Gergasih Merah club throughout the 2024/25 season.
